Hysteroscopic Polypectomy

The lining of the cavity, or endometrium can often grow abnormally and cause abnormal uterine bleeding. The abnormal growth is referred to as a polyp. Endometrial polyps can be removed by inserting a telescope through the vagina and into the uterus without removing the uterus.

Endometrial polyps are often a benign cause of heavy menstrual bleeding, especially in women who are not yet menopausal.  In menopause however, endometrial polyps can more often be associated with cancer of the polyp or endometrium.  It is recommended that endometrial polyps be removed especially in symptomatic premenopausal and postmenopausal women.
